Summer 2017 was incredible! We Just wanted to share two of the letters we received from families who traveled this past summer. Our next Family/Bar-Bat Mitzvah Tour departs on December 23. Limited space is available, so please call soon for more information if you would like to travel with us this winter.
Everything was spectacular beginning with the ease of booking the tour, the customer service here in the US and especially the level of service we received once we arrived in Israel! Our expectations were exceeded from the get go!
The welcome party on the first evening gave the families on our tour an opportunity to meet and mingle. Before dinner, our hostess and tour guide welcomed us and explained what we can expect on our journey over the next few days.
Each morning at our hotels began early with the most sumptuous buffets and then we headed out for our day of touring in our luxury air-conditioned bus with our expert guide.. He was beyond knowledgeable. From ancient history, religion and politics to geography, topography and agriculture – our guide explained everything we needed to know about Israel in a way that captured the attention of both the adults and kids. Not a day went by where we did not laugh, cry or emphatically say, WOW!!
The purpose of this tour was for the bar mitzvah on top of Masada at sunrise. Our private ceremony, led by a wonderful Rabbi, was truly breathtaking and emotional. Israel Discovery Tours provided us with a professional photographer and videographer to capture this momentous occasion.
From the north to the south, there were so many amazing highlights on this Israel tour. But we especially adored river rafting in the Jordan River, floating in the Dead Sea, the camel ride with the Bedouins, the bullet factory and the archaeological dig - to name a few.
After our long days of touring, we were obviously exhausted. We always had free time in the late afternoon to rest at our beautiful hotels before dinner, which were always delicious with enough variety to please even the pickiest appetites. There was also a fantastic Bar Mitzvah party celebration including a DJ and dance floor where everyone got their groove on!
From arrival to departure day, everything was simply perfect and set to the highest standards of luxury travel. We can't thank you enough for this extraordinary trip of a lifetime!

Even before we left on our trip, the professionalism of the US staff in helping plan our Bar Mitzvah trip demonstrated the quality of the organization we chose as our tour company. We were very confident we made the right decision selecting Israel Discovery Tours.
We are now world travelers! Our son’s first trip on an airplane and his first trip out of the USA was our 12 day deluxe “extravaganza” with Israel Discovery Tours. It all began as we landed at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. A staff person met us at the plane, and helped us collect our luggage. She walked us through customs, and to our transportation; which drove us to our hotel. The Guide, Field Coordinator, and Bus Driver, who executed our magnificent tour, were phenomenal!
Our guide educated us on the history of the vast array of sites we visited in Jerusalem, Caesarea, Haifa, Rosh Hanikra, Tiberias, The Jordan Valley, Mt. Gilboa, Masada, Eilat, Tel Aviv and more. He had such “passion” for everywhere we went. He felt like it was his personal duty to educate as many people as possible about Israel. Oh, we also knew where the best ice cream in the country was!
In addition to the many historical sites we visited, there was also time to relax. We floated in the Dead Sea; we swam and snorkeled in the Red Sea while we sailed on the yacht “Zorba”. We were served a wonderful buffet lunch prepared by the crew. Our son fell in love with the lamb kabobs! We also had time to swim and kayak in the Mediterranean Sea.
The accommodations were first class. We were treated like “royalty” in some of the most spectacular hotels Israel has to offer. The food at each hotel was just astonishing with breakfast and dinner buffets.
Our son connected beautifully with all the teenagers and their siblings on the tour. The kids on our bus organized a “Kid’s Club” in the back of the bus. We heard lots of singing and laughing from them during the bus rides to the sites we visited. Even the bus was top notch with lots of space, comfortable seats, and big panoramic picture windows!
One of our personal highlights was the sunrise B’nai Mitzvah Service on top of Masada. The view was breathtaking, as the sun rose over the Dead Sea. The service was held in the remnants of the old Synagogue. It was a very special and moving service in a very special and moving place. All the families celebrated with kiddish, cookies, then a tour of the ruins and the story of the events at Masada.
The celebration continued for the 17 Bar and Bat Mitzvah teenagers with an exceptional banquet and party at the Tel Aviv Hilton with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a delicious dinner. Israel Discover Tours made it extraordinary with a DJ, candle lighting, and a Torah cake-cutting ceremony.
Even our trip home was carefully planned. A representative met us at the airport, walked us through security, helped us check our bags, and made sure all our needs were met.
We have to say without equivocation the staff of Israel Discovery Tours was super- professional, quite friendly, and performed a first class tour. Our family loved every minute of this truly incredible adventure, and can’t wait to return someday in the future. We would like to give IDT our highest recommendation.

Ken Solomon, President of The Tennis Channel, meeting the General Manager of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem while traveling with Israel Discovery Tours!
What a great group of celebrants! 17 Bar & Bat Mitzvah’s - WOW!
The first three days of their unforgettable Israel experience were spent touring in the beautiful and historic city of Jerusalem while staying at the luxurious and world – renowned Waldorf Astoria.
The next stop on their journey was Northern Israel. While staying at the brand new U Boutique Kinneret Hotel in Tiberias, our group toured the Golan Heights, Safed, Rosh Hanikra and so much more.
After two days in the north it was time to head south to the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth for an unsinkable float. Our overnight at the Dead Sea allows us to fully enjoy this unique region and be well rested for Masada. We eliminate the exhausting pre-dawn trip from Jerusalem to Masada and back again.
The families woke up early the next morning for the highlight of the tour – the Bar/Bat Mitzvah service on top of Masada. Here, on this historic spot, a place that symbolizes the spirit of the Jewish people, the children became Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Our private service takes place as the sun rises over the desert landscape. It was an unforgettable moment for the entire family.
After the thrill and emotion of Jerusalem and Masada, the group traveled to Eilat to relax and enjoy the beach and our fabulous yacht cruise with lunch and snorkeling. Saturday afternoon our group will arrive in Tel Aviv – the vibrant city that never sleeps. We fly back from Eilat to Tel Aviv as we always avoid long tiring drives.
While in Tel Aviv the group will visit (among other things) the Tel Maresha Dig located at Beit Guvrin, where they’ll have the rare opportunity to experience hands-on archaeology and perhaps make a few discoveries of their own as the dig and sift for authentic artifacts. Fun for the whole family!
The group will end the tour with our fabulous Bar/Bat Mitzvah banquet at the Tel Aviv Hilton – the very best hotel in Tel Aviv. The party is a festive celebration with music, dancing, cake cutting and a candle lighting ceremony. A wonderful evening!
Our Winter 2016 tour has returned home and they had an amazing trip!
December is such a special time to be in Israel. Our group lit Hanukkah candles in Jerusalem, celebrated the Bar/Bat Mitzvah's on top of Masada, welcomed the New Year at special Bedouin dinner and had an incredible Bar/Bat Mitzvah party in Tel Aviv. So Much to see and experience and our amazing guides made sure that everyone had a fantastic time.
Our December Tour is always very popular and fills up quickly. If you're considering joining us this coming December 2017, call us now for a brochure and save a place for your family on this journey of a lifetime!
We love hearing from our families and sharing their letters with you. Here's one from the group that just returned:
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank Israel Discovery Tours for providing us with a truly unforgettable experience for our son's Bar Mitzvah. Words cannot adequately describe how wonderful the entire trip was. From the moment we landed, to the Bar Mitzvah at Masada, to the moment we departed everything was amazing. Before we even left home, Brad was an invaluable source of information. He was always available to answer our questions and was extremely communicative. Once in Israel, our guide took over and was incredibly well informed, energetic, passionate and funny. He was absolutely adored by the kids, parents and the grandparents - no easy feat. I will recommend his services to anyone who is considering taking a tour of Israel. Each day was a perfect mix of seeing and learning about both ancient and modern sites, cultures, and gorgeous geological wonders. Jerusalem, the desert, the grottoes, the Dead Sea, Tiberias, Caesarea, Tel Aviv, and everything in between were all amazing. Hiking, off-road adventures, archeological digs, museums, Bedouin hut and meal, and a kibbutz visit were just some of the adventures and experiences that we took part in. The Bar Mitzvah at Masada was obviously a high point (no pun intended). It was truly a magical event for everyone. This is something that has to be experienced, as words cannot do it justice. The only thing we did not like about the whole trip was that it had to come to an end. My son is already thinking about when he will return to Israel. We will be recommending IDT, this trip and Israel in general, to everyone we know. Thank you for the memories. Cathy & Lee S. - New York, NY

Our Israel trip experience exceeded all our expectations. The depth and breadth of our guides knowledge was outstanding. The service was impeccable. From the minute we were met upon arrival at the airport to the minute we left, when we once again met at the airport to help us with our luggage and navigate the ticket counter. I had been concerned about going as family of just 3, but the other people on the tour were friendly, warm and welcoming. It truly was the trip of a lifetime!

I cannot say enough regarding how wonderful our IDT trip to Israel was! First, it was always a pleasure to interact with the home staff at IDT - they were incredibly knowledgeable, responsive and helpful. Then from the moment we arrived in Israel until the moment we left, we all felt incredibly well taken care of. Our tour guide was expecially wonderful - remarkably well informed, energetic, passionate, funny and fun. Adults and kids equally adored him. Our days were a perfect mixture of seeing both ancient and modern sites, cultural venues and suprisingly beautiful geological wonders. I really had no idea Israel was as gorgeous as it is. We loved seeing the Old City in Jerusalem, the high desert, the grottoes, the unique rock formations and swimming in the Red, Dead and Mediterranean Seas. Our days were busy but never exhausting and planned to appeal to both adults and kids. We found our fellow travelers friendly and our guide encouraged us to get to know one another. By the second day, the kids were in the back of the bus hanging out together and often would all have breakfast together. When we all dined together at night there was a spontaneously formed kids table to which they flocked. We felt that we got to know everyone by the end of the trip and it was hard to say goodbye. The Bar Mitzvah party on our second to last night was a wonderful end to a magnificent trip. We are recommending it to everyone we know.

My wife, two sons and I went on the 12 day deluxe IDT Bar Mitzvah Tour in the summer of 2016. After careful consideration we chose IDT because of the efficient routing, quality of the itinerary, hotel, timing of the tour and online reviews. I was very confident that IDT was the right choice for us, and even with this high expectation, we were blown away by the experience. We saw nearly the entire country and had fun experiences along the way. The highlight was the Bar Mitzvah on Masada, but there were many others as well. Everything went smoothly and we were cared for from the time we arrived until the time we left. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. IDT also handled special requests for us and were always available. Top notch all the way and we recommend other families taking the same tour. On a final note, even though my family wasn't concerned about traveling to Israel, we understand other families are. We felt extremely safe the entire time. I am one that believes that any time is a good time to visit Israel. People should not be deterred for any reason as it is extremely safe. People who choose not to go to Israel based on erroneous safety concerns are robbing themselves of a major life experience.
Jonathan F. - Potomac, MD
We decided to have our son's Bar Mitzvah in Israel about a couple of years ago. We quickly realized that having a Bar Mitzvah tour would be the way to go. After looking around online, we chose Israel Discovery Tours, and I must say, IDT blew us away as far as professionalism, experience, quality of staff and quality of hotels. From day one to the day we came back from Israel, IDT guided us in every possible way. The tour guide, driver and the event coordinator truly made our experience in Israel a very memorable one. It was such a great feeling being in Israel, knowing that that place is like a second home for us and all Jews around the world. We highly recommend Israel as a travel destination, Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience and without hesitation - Israel Discovery Tours.
Ted M. - Alpharetta, GA
We just returned from a 10 day trip with Israel Discovery Tours - a Bar Mitzvah trip for my son - and it was a truly memorable experience. It is a very full agenda, with early mornings, but the tour guides were top notch - funny and informative, and the itinerary was interesting and worthwhile. The air conditioned bus was very comfortable, and the hotels were very nice. The Waldorf in Jerusalem was really outstanding and a super location. We felt well taken care of both before and during the trip, and it was a great bonding experience for families. Masada was a truly amazing place for a Bar Mitzvah and I can't say enough about it. It was stunning and moving. Israel Discovery Tours is a class act, and I sincerely recommend their Bar Mitzvah trip for the experience of a lifetime.

Our first summer group has already returned home from their extraordinary Israel experience and judging from the phone calls - they had an awesome tour!
Not only did they see all of Israel - they experienced it as a family and celebrated their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs high atop Masada at an amazing sunrise service.
Starting in Jerusalem at the brand new 5 star Waldorf Astoria, they toured all the sites of this amazing city where new and old converge at the epicenter of religious history. From the top of Mount Scopus to the busy narrow streets of the Old City, not a sight, sound or flavor was missed.
From Jerusalem it was on to Northern Israel stopping along the way at Caesaria, Haifa and the magnificent grottoes at Rosh Hanikra. From centrally located Tiberias our group was able to easily tour all of the interesting and exciting sites including the beautiful and strategically important Golan Hights on a private jeep tour, the ancient city of Safed - home of Kabballah, and rafting on the Jordan River. In the evening our group had a fun filled boat ride on the Sea of Galilee complete with music and Israeli dancing and a visit with Kibbutzniks at Kibbutz Ein Gev.
Before leaving the north on their way to the Negev Desert, the families met with some very special newcomers to Israel at GanGaroo - Kangaroos, Koala Bears and exotic birds! Not just a zoo, an adventure where everyone gets to feed, pet and play with the animals.
The luxurious Isrotel Dead Sea Resort and Spa was our groups desert oasis for one night. From here they were able to float in the Dead Sea and be close to Masada - the location of the highly anticipated Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony the next day! The beautiful sunrise Bar/Bat Mitzvah service took place in the ancient synagogue a top Masada. Afterwards, it was back to the hotel for breakfast and then on to Eilat!
What could be better than two nights in the fabulous resort city of Eilat after a week of touring? The group thoroughly enjoyed the calm clear waters of the Red Sea, the beautiful beaches and a fantastic boat cruise with lunch and snorkeling. After a short flight from Eilat to Tel Aviv (we always fly to avoid a long bus ride), our families arrived at the incomparable Tel Aviv Hilton ready to celebrate at their festive Bar/Bat Mitzvah Gala Party. What a celebration it was - music, dancing, cake cutting and candle lighting. An incredible evening!
It was time to say goodbye after one more day of touring in Tel Aviv. Although their journey of discovery and celebration has ended, their memories and connection to Israel will last a lifetime. This Spring our two Adults Only tours used our NEW and IMPROVED itinerary. In order to keep our status as the #1 Tour to Israel, we are constantly changing, improving and updating our itinerary. Judging by the response of our recently returned passengers, we hit a home run!
In the Negev Desert, at the Ramon Crater, we added a visit to the new Visitor's Center which houses the emotional museum and memorial to Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut. On our way to Tiberias we have added a tour of the Atlit Detention Camp. Contructed by the British, Atlit was used to imprison desperate Jews arriving in spite of the British Mandate 1939 - 1948. In the Golan Heights a refreshing visit to the award winning Golan Heights Winery is new for 2016/17, including a tasting to sample some of the best wine Israel has to offer.
We are always working to improve our routing and scheduling, allowing us to see the most and maximize your time to shop, relax and enjoy every minute of your Israel experience.
As always, whether you choose the Deluxe or Value tour, the intinerary is exaclty the same.
Just a few notes from our Spring 2016 returning passengers:
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you what a fabulous trip we had to Israel. We immediately gelled with everyone and became one harmonious group. We even decided that we would go to dinner together on our night off! Besides all of the interesting sights and amazing countryside, our guide was fantastic. His knowledge and ability to transfer his love of Israel to everyone in the group was astonishing. We are so delighted that we were finally able to make this trip. We always felt safe and had a fabulous time. Many friendships were made and we hope to be able to come back for a secone time - maybe even with some couples from the group Iris & Sy - Mount Sinai, NY
A note to let you know that the Israel trip was an unbelievable adventure. Every minute of everyday was just amazing. Our guide was fabulous in every way; he was so knowledgeable and interesting. The entire trip is something we will talk about for a very long time and we will never forget our experiences. Myra & Michael, Wilton Manors, FL
Happy New Year!
We just returned from our completely SOLD OUT December Family / Bar-Bat Mitzvah tour and what a fantastic trip it was! Families from all over the United States came to Israel and had an unforgettable experience. On December 24th we welcomed everyone to Israel with a reception and dinner at our luxury Jerusalem hotel - the brand new Waldorf Astoria, which has just been rated #1 in the Middle East and #7 in the world by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. For three fun filled days we toured Jerusalem including; the Old City, a memorial service at Yad Vashem, the Israel Museum and a visit to Israel's Military Cemetery. The new excavations in the Old city showed us how our Jewish roots from centuries ago are still growing and deeply connected to our modern 21st century lives.
History was all around us as we left Jerusalem and toured to northern Israel. We visited ancient Roman ruins in Caesarea, the modern seaside city of Haifa and the magnificent gardens of the Bahai Temple, the beautiul natural grottos of Rosh Hanikrah and ended our day in Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee. Our touring in the North was full of fun, exploration and experiences that broadened our knowledge of life in Israel. In the Golan we saw tanks and bunkers from past wars and leaned about the sacrifices paid by Israel to ensure and protect peace. At Gan Garoo we met and played with some of Israel's newest immigrants - Kangaroos and Koala Bears! We danced and sang our way across the Sea of Galilee on a private boat and were greeted at Kibbutz Ein Gev by our Kibbutz hosts who invited us into their homes to learn about this unique communal lifestyle.
After two nights in the North we headed south to the Dead Sea, the lowest place on Earth. With touring along the way including stops at Belvoir (an ancient crusader fortress), the Qumran Caves, where the Dead Sea Scolls were found and the desert oasis of Ein Gedi, we arrived at the luxurious Isrotel Dead Sea Resort and Spa with plenty of time to float in Dead Sea, relax at the pool and enjoy treatments. Feeling fresh and renewed we were awakened before sunrise on December 31st. On the last day of the year we rode the cable car to the top of Masada. At sunrise our Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrants and their families were called to the Torah in the ancient synagogue of this impressive mountain fortress. Grandparents, parents, siblings, friends and relatives who traveled thousands of miles to witness this momentous occasion will never forget this most important rite of passage. It was so meaningful for everyone and more than a few tears were shed.
A beautiful buffet breakfast waited for us at our hotel upon our return from Masada. We then began our journey to the modern metropolis of Tel Aviv. Along the way we had a fantastic visit with the Bedouins and rode camels! Next was a real "hands on" archaelogical dig. We rang in the New Year at the Tel Aviv Hilton with a fabulous Bar/Bat Mitzvah gala. At midnight, champagne was poured and 2016 was welcomed with hugs, kisses and wishes for health, happiness and peace. The group danced and sang until well after midnight!
The last day of touring included the Ayalon Institute, Latrun, shopping time and a lovely farewell Shabbat dinner. It was an incredible tour and we know all the families would agree that Israel Discovery Tours provided the finest Israel experience. From our Deluxe hotels and exciting itinerary to our own staff of seasoned guides - we give you the best of Israel. Let us welcome you home in 2016!
It’s hard to believe that Summer has ended and Fall is upon us. Our final Family/Bar-Bat Mitzvah tour of the summer season returned home on August 31st. Since then the calls have not stopped coming in from our passengers and their friends they have referred to us for future tours to Israel. This tour was comprised of families from all across American and Canada. They met in Israel as strangers but are now one large family bonded by their shared experiences on our Israel tour.
We would like to share with you just a few of the letters we’ve received:
My wife, two sons and I have now been back in the U.S. for about a week, and while I'm not inclined to hyperbole, this was frankly the most amazing trip we've ever taken. Certainly, it was significant for several reasons: 1) it was our first trip to Israel - ever; and 2) our son had his Bar Mitzvah at dawn on Masada. It was also a trip which encompassed the entire country, from the northern Lebanese border to Eilat in the south, from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, from the Jordan River to the Sea of Galilee to the Dead See to the Red Sea. Oh, and did I mention that we both drove and flew over the Negev, visited a Kibbutz, received and ongoing lesson in political science and history (our tour guide was nothing short of brilliant and funny, besides being incredibly informative). We also saw the Knesset, Yad Vashem, and the military cemetery which was more than poignant.
Throughout the entire trip, every event and activity functioned like clockwork. Even the rabbi as arranged by Israel Discovery Tours made our son feel that this truly was his Bar Mitzvah, along with the other boys and girls who were there for the same purpose. No event or activity was either too long or too short.
In sum, this was the most enjoyable trip we've ever taken!
Thanks ever so much to Israel Discovery Tours for giving us such a great experience.
-Christine & Dana L – Worcester, MA
We were thrilled with our Israel Tour. From start to finish, we enjoyed everything. We stayed at luxurious hotels (including the new Waldorf Astoria in Jerusalem) and our guide was smart, entertaining and informative. There were so many highlights, but the most memorable was the Bar Mitzvah service on Masada. It was a wonderful moment to share with family and new friends. The attention to detail - from the hotels, the meals and the roomy bus (apples and water too!) made the trip carefree. It certainly surpassed our expectations
-Deborah & Jason T – Old Bethpage, NY
Our experience with the Israel Discovery Tours Bar Mitzvah Family Tour this summer was amazing. I can't say enough positive things about the staff, the itinerary and the experiences. We stayed at wonderful hotels and ate way too much great food. But, it was really our tour guide who made the trip so memorable. He was incredibly knowledgeable and fun. I think I'll hear "yalla" in my sleep for a few weeks, but we all will cherish the experience learning the geography and history of our homeland.
-Beth & Matthew S – Richboro, PA
Space is limited on our Fall 2015 Adults Only tours for good reason!
Read what our Spring 2015 passengers have to say about their Israel experience:
We returned from our trip two weeks ago and still have not stopped talking about how wonderful it was. It was the trip of a lifetime. Being a tour member of IDT and as guide always said, "being part of the IDT family" was much more than we ever expected. We never could have anticipated what we saw, how we were treated and the way everything just flowed. We never had to worry about our luggage, or accommodations and food - that was beyond fabulous at every stop. At every meal we said "this cannot be topped!" We were wrong, the next meal was even better. We are still talking about the dinner at the restaurant on the Sunday evening before we left for the airport!
There are no words to describe our guide. Not only was he full of information (and we still cannot get over the amount of knowledge he had), but he was so concerned about us. He wanted us to feel Israel through is eyes and heart, and we did. At every evening stop he gave everyone on the tour his room number in case he was needed during the night. He could not stop filling us with information. We must also give a big round of applause to our bus driver. We all felt very safe in the company of the IDT representatives.
Should we ever decide to revist Israel, IDT would be our choice hands down. We would not even consider another tour company. We had friends that have traveled with other tour companies, and when we compared our tour to theirs, IDT won hands down.
A special thank you to Bradley, who always answered my questions, had good suggestions and always returned my phone calls.
Again, thank you IDT. You were all the best. You made our dream trip a true reality.
